MISFITS' MONSTER MASH

ESSENTIAL LISTENING: HAPPY HALLOWEEN

To celebrate this haunting holiday, we've compiled some horrific classics for you to trick-or-treat to:

First off, download The Misfits' classic 1981 single, Halloween. What day of the dead would be complete without a couple spins of this tune? Turn it up and monster mash away.

Next, download Ink & Dagger's 2000 release, The Fine Art of Original Sin--a record brimming with spooky, vampiric sounds and Halloween spirit (not to mention the make-up!)

Finally, visit the Metal Hardcore Albums Blog to download the complete Integrity discography. Pretty sure Dwid's still trying to brush the fact that he once coined the term "horror-core" under the rug, but he can't deny that Integrity has spawned some frightmares in its day.

STARKWEATHER STUDIO UPDATE

Studio Notes (10/3/2009-10/7/2009)

SATURDAY
Started early Saturday afternoon. Load in up the god awful fucking stairs. Set up kit and spread Harry's shit out to easier mic. Harry brought his junkyard goodies. Saw blade, hollow core drill bits, ribbon crasher, Hammerax noise maker. Tuned drum heads and set up mics. Vin's bass rig in the isolation room. Same setup as last time. Played through my rig for scratch tracks.

Started tracking Drug at about 8 o'clock. Did 3 or 4 takes. First keeper take 23 continuous minutes. Take 2 better last 7 minutes. Drug Holiday done. Song so long that listening to the playback to find mistakes is difficult. I cannot concentrate for 30 minutes straight. Alap edited 2 sections together and we were set to record Space Jam.

COKE BUST NEWS & NOTES

We've all been on the downlow as of late ever since the US tour. But we have been jamming and working on some new stuff for a split 7" with our san jose, california grindcore felon homies IN DISGUST. This will be out in the US on their resident label UNHOLY THRASH RECORDS. Look for that some time in early 2010. It'll shred.

We will be doing an insane, irrational weekend that makes little to no sense at all with fellow DCHC warriors LOJ and GIVE that will hit: HARRISONBURB, VA (dec 4), NASHVILLE, TN (dec 5), and PARKERSBURG, WV (dec 6). The LOJ guys are setting this up and they have way more info on it than we do. All I know is that it will involve roughly 16 people, a few vehicles, lots of joning, and grown ass men wearing diapers. We may play some shows, too.

alot of people have been asking us about what's going on with our european tour plans for 2010. the truth of the matter is that we really don't know what's going. the original plan was to have it next summer, but that won't be possible any more for a few reasons. So the earliest it will go down is next fall. That looks pretty promising though. Ju-ju-bert has already taken off school!
---------
before we left for tour we tried hustling as much merch online as possible to pay for things we needed to pay for. now that we (i) realized that there are a few people who may have not gotten the stuff they ordered. if anybody has ever ordered stuff and not heard from us and not gotten it, please hit us up at cokebust@gmail.com and we will make it right!

also coming soon: cd version of LINES IN THE SAND (w/ bonus stuff) on six weeks records.

get the lp!  www.bestbuy.com (just kidding, kind of).  www.sixweeksrecords.com !!!!!!!!!!!

TWELVE GAUGE RECORDS SIGNS THROATS

From TG:

This announcement has been long due as the decision to work with Throats was made many months ago but the band is officially in the studio and is recording a self-titled release that will come out as a 12"LP/CD on Twelve Gauge Records in the U.S. and Holy Roar Records in the U.K.

This is TG's first U.K. artist and I am beyond excited to be working with such a hard working band. They're constantly touring and making plans to cross the pond and complete a full U.S. tour. More on that as it develops.

Release will be out in February 2009 but the exact details are still being ironed out. For now you can check out the bands material on their myspace at: http://myspace.com/throatsofgold.

BRIDGE PROPOSED ACROSS UTAH LAKE

Salt Lake Tribune --Leon Harward, who wants to build a bridge across Utah Lake, sees it as correcting a deficiency in the vision of Utah's founders: No east-west corridor.
"Ever since Brigham Young came to town, the question has been how to get from north to south," said Harward, one of the principals of Utah Lake Crossing.

But many of the residents who spoke at the Utah Lake Commission's hearing on the proposed Utah Lake bridge, said the span would destroy the lake and inject urban sprawl into the Cedar Valley area west of the lake.

UPDATE: CHUCK BISCUITS MAY NOT BE DEAD

From the JG2 Land blog:

UPDATE #1: Rumors are beginning to swirl that this is some kind of elaborate hoax. If so, I can assure you I am NOT in on it. I have previously chronicled my contact with Chuck/person(s) claiming to be Chuck(?) and never had any reason to disbelieve their claims.

Since this post went viral, however, several people (including former Danzig bassist Eerie Von and Chuck's brother Bob Montgomery) have openly questioned his death. All I can tell you is I've been communicating with two people since May I was always 99.999% sure were THE Chuck Biscuits and his wife from e-mail addresses bearing their names. They never asked me to wire money to a Nigerian prince or adopt their child, so I took it all at face value.

Chuck's wife is allegedly the one who has been sending out mass e-mails about Chuck's condition to family and friends; I didn't use her name below because I didn't know if she'd be comfortable with that and it didn't seem like a good time to bring it up, considering her husband was dying. I'm still not going to use her name on the same grounds.

Although I can't imagine why a former member of Danzig would want to fake his own death via the Internet, I know plenty of people who severely dislike me and would take any chance they could to play on my gullibility to make me look as stupid as possible (i.e. e-mail me for six months pretending to be a dying drummer I admire). If this is all a big fat lie, I'm sorry, but I promise I was duped just as hard as you.

UPDATE #2: Further e-mails have been exchanged with Chuck's brother Bob Montgomery; after I confirmed the name of Chuck's wife via two independent sources, Bob wrote:

"Chuck and I have been somewhat estranged for a time, but this seems fishy. I am going to his home to get to the bottom of this, I will let you know one way or the other. If this is a hoax, I will pop Chuck in his beak. I am allowed. He is my little brother."

The investigation continues. At this point, I don't know whom to believe.

UPDATE #3: CHUCK BISCUITS ALIVE? An e-mail I just received at 6:34 PM EST:

"Dear James Greene,

This note is on behalf of Bob Montgomery, who ask me (his wife) to let you know that CHUCK IS ALIVE. Bob is on his way to see him now and will send you a follow up email in the near future. Thank you for taking the time to reply to Bob’s email this morning.

Sincerely,
 Tabitha Montgomery"

Case closed? Not until I figure out who the hell was e-mailing me for six months pretending to be Chuck and his wife. A "full disclosure" post regarding my side of this whole mess is coming shortly.

xSTUCK IN THE PASTx FEATURES EUROPEAN HARDCORE OF THE 90s

"Within the last year, Ive been going back and re-discovering a lot of 90s European hardcore bands that I had either never heard or hadnt heard in a long time. Honestly, Im so glad I did because there were so many good bands to come out of Germany, Poland, Italy, Sweden and especially the Belgium H8000 scene."

NEW MUSIC: KAYO DOT

Starkweather wants you to hear this band. Check out the epic, epic jam, "Whisper Ineffable," off the album Coyote, slated for release through Hydra Head in early 2010.

Singer, composer and chief conceptualist Toby Driver once allied himself with doom metal’s experimental wing. But over the course of three extraordinary studio albums made with ever-shifting lineups, Kayo Dot has become a protean entity that draws equally upon goth rock, free jazz, prog, contemporary classical music and much, much more.

R.I.P. CHUCK BISCUITS, 1965 - 2009

Prolific hardcore punk drummer, Chuck Biscuits, lost his battle with throat cancer on October 24th, at the age of 44. Thanks for helping define 'hardcore,' Chuck. Rest in Peace.

From PunkNews.org:

Chuck was born Charles Montgomery in British Columbia, Canada, performing with hardcore pioneers D.O.A. before relocating to California in 1982 and joining Black Flag. Those early days in California saw him perform with a number of legendary bands, including the Circle Jerks, Fear, and the Weirdos.

Biscuits later made his name playing for Danzig. From 1988 he performed as part of that band for their first four albums. He later appeared on their 1993 Thrall: Demonsweatlive EP which yielded the hit "Mother." The drummer performed with a number of acts from punk to hip hop, logging time with everyone from Samhain and Social Distortion to Run D.M.C.

AMERICAN FORK YOUTH CITED FOR RAPPING TO MCDONALD'S DRIVE-THRU EMPLOYEES

Salt Lake Tribune -- What seemed like a clever way to order food at a McDonald's drive-through ended up with four teenage boys pursued and cited by police.

KSL News reports the quartet decided to "rap" their order at the American Fork eatery Tuesday night.

Apparently, the employee working the window wasn't amused, telling the group to order properly. Instead, they rapped the order again, slower. A manager then asked the teens to leave.

But that wasn't the end of it. Not only did they leave without food, but an employee took down their vehicle license number and called police.

American Fork cops soon found them at a Lone Peak High School volleyball game and cited all four for disorderly conduct.

The kids were reenacting this viral video:

SYRACUSE.COM INTERVIEWS KARL BUECHNER (EARTH CRISIS, PATH, FREYA)

What turned you on to straight edge?

Karl: I was involved with sports and music. I saw kids from an early age, whom I grew up skateboarding with, get into drugs and alcohol. They started skating less and being less enthusiastic about the things they had been passionate about. It was terrifying to watch people I cared about become drug addicts or alcoholics. ... In essence, I was scared straight.

JAWBOX SQUASHES REUNION RUMORS

Straight from J. Robbins:

It seems like if we were ever going to do it - now would be the time. We all put our heads together, and it just seemed like - with all of us in different cities and leading complicated and over-committed lives as we do - that it would be very, very difficult for us to to dedicate the time it would take for us to live up to the standards that we want to live up to.

If we were going to do shows, we would not want it to be half-assed. There were good and bad things about Jawbox, but we always held ourselves to a pretty high standard as far as playing shows. We would want to make sure we did it right, and we felt like we couldn't take the time to do that. So that was pretty much the beginning and the end of the reunion discussion.

Check out the rest of the interview here.

JUST DIE! 7" AVAILABLE NOW

"Musically NC's Just Die! seem to take the Kid Dynamite approach, but faster... and I mean WAY faster. The music has some melodic parts, but the vocals are harsh and screamed. Saw this band on a whim in NJ a few weeks ago and was very impressed, they were super nice dudes too." - Bleeding Edges

"Rad punk/hardcore from Asheville, NC. Imagine slightly heavier Kid Dynamite with harsher vocals to lead those crucial sing-along parts that we all know and love." - Matt Voegel, 2009 MACRoCk Committee

Check 'em out here.

BLACKLISTED TO RELEASE LP THIS FALL

Blacklisted will release a 12-inch LP titled, No One Deserves To Be Here More Than Me, in November via Deathwish.

The album is the follow up to 2008's Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God.

If you haven't caught it yet, here's the video for the song "I Am Weighing Me Down" off that album:

LIFE OF AGONY BASSIST WRITES COMIC BOOK

Blabbermouth -- Alan Robert has joined forces with IDW Publishing to release a new horror/conspiracy miniseries titled Wire Hangers. Created, written and illustrated by Robert, with covers by comic fan-favorite Nelson DeCastro (Marvel Masterpieces), Wire Hangers will make its worldwide debut in March 2010.

Robert is no stranger to comics. He studied cartooning under Walter Simonson (The Mighty Thor) at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he attended on scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Best known for being the primary songwriter behind LIFE OF AGONY's critically acclaimed "River Runs Red" concept album, Robert is also an accomplished artist. His illustrations and designs have appeared on merchandise, ad campaigns and web sites for multi-platinum rock acts such as 3 DOORS DOWN, PUDDLE OF MUDD and SHINEDOWN.

In Wire Hangers, which will debut with a 32-page, ad-free first issue, a series of abductions are plaguing New York, leaving no one safe. When Anna Davis, a feisty young female reporter, goes undercover to try and snag the big exclusive, she stumbles upon clues that give us a glimpse into what could be the most disturbing government conspiracy of our time. Pill-popping detectives, corrupt secret agents and a mysterious, disfigured homeless man are all inter-connected in this horrific tale of revenge and redemption.
