STREET JUSTICE: CONVERGE CALL OUT THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALBUM LEAK

Converge's new album, Axe To Fall doesn't officially come out until October 20, but if you have the internet, chances are you've already heard it. The album was leaked a few days ago but thanks to an increased effort from record labels to try and prevent such an event, they know exactly where the leak originated. Labels have started issuing advance and promo copies that contain a digital watermark that can be traced back to the owner, and this time, Converge and Epitaph did just that.

The leak originated from metalsucks.net staffer Shaun Hand who was given a copy for review. As soon as the name of the staffer was revealed, the band took to the internet. It led to a domino effect of other artists calling for "Street Justice" (whatever that might entail) and a formal apology from the website responsible.

You can read more details and a partial timeline from Twitter about the ordeal over at The Phoenix.

What do you think? Is public shaming called for here and what are your thoughts about downloading unreleased music?

  1. I think we should all count our blessings that Jake Bannon allows us to even listen to the Art he creates. And we should be more thankful to the Jake Bannon

  5. I downloaded it. It's awesome.

Paying for music is optional and generous. If you feel like you want to support a band further than listening, then go to a show, buy a t-shirt or something... I'd just be stoked people anyone have and listen to my music. Don't care about how they got it.

  7. I download everything. I will eventually download this even though they haven't been anything great for a long time.

And boo fucking hoo if someone downloaded your album two weeks before it comes out. Odds are, no one would even hear that fucking crap if they didn't and it's not like they want to buy cd's of bands they haven't heard. You might make a fan who will tell others about your shit. No sense crying about iy. Go be pissed, go fuck off. Who cares?

  8. Think bannon ran a little short on his last paycheck?
Or maybe he's lost sight on what's really important and that people are still amazingly listening to his band.
