"This song is about the disarmament of institution. But it doesn't put responsibility solely on those with perceived authority. It suggests that the manipulated probably knew better."

GAZA NEWS AND NOTES

The band has canceled their Spring Tour due to complications. Here's a statement.
"Sorry to all the folks that have helped us or wanted to see us in a couple weeks. We just couldn't get this tour put together well enough and the outlook wasn't looking great. We're going to tag a week onto another tour this year, though, so look out for that. However, we're still going to play Dudefest this July and will be booking for that. Stay tuned, y'alls. Sorry midwest Gazateers, but we'll be by in two months!"

And Gaza/Bird Eater frontman Jon Parkin checked in with Curtis Jensen and City Weekly for a quick interview.

Jon Parkin is vocalist for Gaza and Bird Eater, both of which are on Black Market Activities, a label distributed by Metal Blade Records. Gaza has just completed their second LP for Black Market Activities, recording with Andy Patterson over the last four months. On March 31, 2009, Gaza played their first show as a four-piece. This conversation took place in the kitchen of Captain Captain studios on a rainy Wednesday evening:

City Weekly: Describe your role at a show.

JP: I am the politician. I am usually the guy that is shaking hands and saying, “Thanks for letting us play your club,” “We appreciate the help on the road,” that sort of thing. A lot of times, I get a strange reaction because when you are talking to kids, seeing a 6-foot-7 guy up on stage, yelling and screaming while there is all this music going on. Then you step off the stage and shake someone’s hand, and you say, “Thanks for coming”—they are kind of set back by that. They say, “Wow, you are so nice; we figured you drank goats’ blood.”

Check out the rest of the interview over at City Weekly's site.

MORNING AFTER: BRAVEYOUNG

Collapse rules. We've all seen them enough times to know that this is true. But where's the recorded proof? Well, the band is entering the studio May 9th and from the sounds of their live shows, we've got a lot to look forward to. Always progressing, always perfecting, Collapse has got great things ahead of them.

Gaza was up next, making their Baxter's Cafe debut and playing one of their first all-ages shows in over a year. They played a brutal mix of songs both new and old—including a few tracks from their upcoming album "He's Never Coming Back." Blown guitar heads aside, Gaza proved why they're one of the most promising young bands on the metal scene—both local and national.

Braveyoung closed the show with some of the most beautifully epic songs imaginable. They drove 14 hours straight from Seattle—stopping only to pick up lead guitarist Derrick from the airport—just to make the show. They were gracious and humble and still proved to be one of the most talented bands around.

Thanks to everyone that came out and everyone that stuck around. Don't forget that May 8 is Life or Death, Outlet and Dismantled at Baxter's Cafe. Everyone come check it out and have a good time.

And check out the videos below (sorry for the sound quality, Gaza and Braveyoung both brought more power than our PA and my video camera's microphone were ready for).

THANKS FOR COMING OUT LAST NIGHT

The show was a lot of fun and thanks for everyone for sticking around.

Thanks to the guys in Collapse (that aren't me), all the guys in Gaza and the dudes in Braveyoung—who drove 14 hours straight from Seattle, stopping only to pick up Derrick from the airport.

The MORNING AFTER and GCAcast 03 will be up *hopefully* early Wednesday. Keep your eyes peeled.

Next GCA show is May 8 - Life or Death, Dismantled and Outlet. Get stoked.

GAZA TO RECORD

Gaza heads into the studio soon to record its 2nd full-length for Metal Blade Records' imprint Black Market Activities. Prepare yourself for another punishing dose of sonic carnage and abstract, yet witty, social commentary.
