Ebullition put out bands that main stream hardcore labels would not. the victory's and what not, because they were not polished and media ready. In a time where making money was and still is more important then making art. The bands they put out were disagreeable and sloppy and beautiful and terrifying and sad. It didn't speak to everyone but it spoke to me. It just might be my emotional state or my lust for music that hurts a little.
that's why when i hear the over produced generic pop hardcore music that people are trying to pass off as new and original it makes me sick.
These bands could not of gave a shit if anyone liked them or even listened to their music. They put it out there and let it go. I hope for a day when the bands get back on stage let the hopes of making money and touring the world subside and let it all explode in to a messy expression of temper and crushing neurosis. those are my hopes anyway.
Born Against was one of the best hardcore bands to ever exist, I know that much (see: The Rebel Sound of Shit and Failure).
I couldn't have put my affection for the label better myself Nate. Don't stop looking though... bands are still functioning on this level. Check out Black Kites from New Jersey.
And hell yes, Spenser, Born Against was such a great band.
