So many memories get tied to venues. Looking back at the end of the first decade of this new millenium, we're wondering... where did you make yours?
This list is made up of venues that held more than a handful of shows during the 00s and focuses on those where hardcore shows were all-ages, not-for-profit and booked by actual hardcore kids.
Feel free to write others into the comments. And while you're at it, why not share some of those treasured memories from these icons of Salt Lake Hardcore History:
DV8
Wagstaff
Albee Square
The Junction(s)
Kilby Court
Undergrounds
Uprok
Wild Mushroom
Vortex
Artopia
Baxters

The first Skeiff d' Bargg show at Albee Square is definitely one of my favorite memories of all-time. Skeiff, Amendment 18 and Integrity! Making SDB shirts up until the minute we went on stage. Tyle wearing that XXL purple turtleneck. Slaughtering that Judge cover but everyone still going nuts. Such a great time.
Or how about the Set It Straight show at Wild Mushroom in 2004, with Life Long Tragedy and Crime in Stereo. Everyone playing outside. Clouds rolling in. Moving SIS inside. A hundred people in that tiny back room. People slipping all over the place. Sweat dripping from the ceiling which was like a foot above our heads and people still stage diving!
Then the show moving back outside for Crime In Stereo and everyone standing around like nothing ever happened.
I liked the CYJ set in that back room of Wild Mushroom, too. I had to face Chase the whole time because there was no room for me to turn around and somebody kicked a hole in the wall during the set. We made someone stand in front of it while Hoods played so the owners wouldn't notice.
Also, before that first Skeiff show you guys decided we should all wear dress shirts and ties while we played. And of course, I was the only sucker in the band that did. Fuck you guys for that, by the way.
But the first Cherem show at Wagstaff stands out to me, too. I had to dodge a shoe that someone lost while moshing and watch Bill as he played guitar and tried to make up lyrics at the same time.
I really want to say Kilby because of how awesome it used to be...
I clearly remember Skurv also wearing a dress shirt and a tie.
I liked dv8 and the hatebreed riot. Wagstaff and all the shows I saw at that place. and Uprok because I got hit in the face by a chair during the Opened up Cd release show. That was early 00 right?
The only place I really miss is the basement of DV8. The owners, people who booked the shows and the security were among the worst bags of shit we ever had to deal with but as a venue that place was easily one of my top 5 venues ever. When you filled that place with people it was hektik.org. The rock walls the shitty bathrooms a seperate little area for bands to have merch. Low ceilings. A back corner for the weirdos to fuck or hang out after they got beat up. Small enough to feel full even with 40 people but big enough to fit a couple hundred. Small ground level stage. I mean if they made a movie about hardcore music they could use that place as a set. Just the perfect venue. Last of a dying breed of real hardcore feeling and looking venues for me. Granted the people in charge really made it suck sometimes but when it went off without a hitch it was bad ass. After that it was all places that weren't really venues but more like places we made venue's and had fun there. The only place in the 2000's that even comes close for me would be Undergrounds. Everywhere else was so Fucking Big. Like the Scorpians could play there. Ok not like the 80's Scorpians but like 2000's Scorpians.
wagstaff was cool too, i liked that little square in the middle of the floor and cymbals covering the lights. but wild mushroom and vortex leave the best memories...crazy ass pillow fight in the luv sack room.good times.
im with casey on this one. basement of DV8 for sure. And kilby court was a close second.
Bleeding Through/Throwdown and the Poison the Well/Martyr AD show at Kilby Court were two of the most fun shows I can remember.
Im going to have to agree with the SIS/Life Long Tragedy show (back when they were awesome... LLT, that is) at wild mushroom. Too bad omega red broke up before i got to play a show with them, i would have loved to play there, outside. Dv8 was bad ass, only saw a couple shows there, but i agree with casey on the whole "venue" feel of the place.
yeah we should steal kilby court. That has the makings of a pretty bad ass venue. I've got a plan!!! I'll tell the fake ass Will Sartain that the real Will Sartain will trade him total ownership over the name for Kilby.Otherwise Ill start using it all the time and he'll have to deal with the fallout of being accidentally associated.lots of conversations will begin with,"HEY your that asshole that thinks......(insert something crazy and offensive here)my wife the astronaut is really just a whore for NASA."
