Six months ago, Trevor and I were walking up to Sugarhouse Park to watch the 4th of July fireworks. We had played music together for years in the bands Cherem and Skeiff d'Bargg, spent hours talking about hardcore on overnight drives in tour vans and had just finished one year of working together at the Daily Utah Chronicle.
While discussing hardcore memories, we came to the conclusion that it'd be nice to apply what we'd learned at the paper to something we actually cared about: hardcore in Salt Lake City. With freedom ringing all around, Grudge City Activities was born.
Sias' love for general hilarity made him an obvious choice for a fellow writer. Blake's decade of making historic shows happen in Salt Lake City gave us a solid contact to send touring bands to. Clint's taking-care-of-business attitude and Nathan's dedication brought Xibalba and Starkweather to Salt Lake. And the support of everyone of you reading this made all of our work in 2008 possible.
We've got big plans for 2009 and we want everyone to be involved. This is not about cliques, crews, scene points or trends. Leave that garbage for the message boards. It's about keeping Salt Lake's hardcore scene strong, supporting our amazing local bands and having fun!
So start a band, book a show, write a zine, open a distro, create a label, plaster up a flyer, get your friends involved and let us know what you're up to so we can make GCA the finest source of Salt Lake Hardcore news possible.
Thanks Salt Lake. See you at a show. GCA
