SATELLITE DEBRIS FALLING ACROSS TEXAS
If you hadn't heard, last week a U.S. satellite orbiting the earth collided with a defunct Russian satellite in space. U.S. and Russian officials have traded blame as to whose fault the crash was, but it left thousands of pieces of debris spinning through space.
Earlier today, an FAA official stated that pieces of the satellite have been falling across the state of Texas. No one has been hit by any and there's yet to be any damage to any property, but that could all change at some point throughout the day.
The U.S. military estimates that there are around 18,000 object orbiting the earth, and while they do their best to monitor all of them, there are the occasional few that slip past. Last week's collision was the first time two intact spacecrafts have crashed into one another.
NOTE: The above image provided by the European Space Agency shows and artist impression of catalogued objects in low-Earth orbit viewed over the Equator.
