SLC SEEKS FEEDBACK ON POLICE STATION

Salt Lake Tribune -- Salt Lake City is seeking public feedback on whether to build a $125 million public safety complex on the west or east side of 300 East near Library Square.

Two open houses are scheduled in the next two weeks. Councilman Luke Garrott, who says "people are going nuts over this," worries Mayor Ralph Becker will stack the workshops with supporters of the mayor's "preferred" west-side location. "He told me he wasn't backing off," Garrott said. "I'm really worried about how the mayor is going to constrict discussion."

To fight back, Garrott will push a City Council resolution to kill the Library Square option before the May 30 and June 1 workshops. But Councilman J.T. Martin defended the mayor. "Ralph has no guile -- he's not trying to pull a quick one," Martin said.
