Dan here. As you may have noticed I've been M.I.A. for the last few weeks due to some hectic projects with my work. My time is freeing up though and I thought this would be a great chance to ask you what you'd like to see more of here on GCA.
Personally, I plan to place more emphasis on Salt Lake City Hardcore content, past and present -- obviously something we've always focused on but I know we could do better.
But what are you into? The random news from our podcast? National, B9-Board-ish news? Articles? Videos? Downloads? 101s? Morning Afters? Essential Listenings?

Salt Lake Hardcore 101's. more of those would be sweet.
Sure thing. They're at the top of our list. Let us know what bands you'd like to see first.
The "Morning After" section should be updated more often. Always looked forward to reading those when I missed out on a show.
Oh man The Lazarus Project for sure, or 78 Days After Death. That would rule.
I'm dead fucking serious when I say I wanna see the chronology of utah hardcore in general. I wanna know about each band and what they stood for politically, and how (or if) that carried or clashed into other bands and society in general.

problem with the morning after is the night before there would to have been a show....
More 101's are in the works. I've got interviews pending with Clear, Triphammer, Lyndal Control and Lazarus Project. I'm just waiting to hear back from those guys and have more in the works.
Those are fun to write and I'm glad people enjoy them. I just feel they're a lot better when we can get people who were actually in those bands to talk to us about the experience. And those dudes, while not terribly hard to track down, usually have a lot of other stuff going on.
But there are more coming.
I'd like to see 101's on current Utah bands that aren't broken up as well. Interviews that ask various questions that are relative to the band and their experiences, whether they are old or new. There are a lot of bands on the "current" list of GCA that no one really ever hears about and just sit there and collect dust with the exception of the infrequent show flyer bearing their name. I'd like to learn more about them all along the lines of their background. I think it would do a lot of good in terms of spreading the word about upcoming bands and learning more about the current state of hardcore in Utah in general, also allowing the news and updates on hardcore scenes in Utah to become more well-rounded and universal. It would add another element of interest for people who go to shows, as I've always found myself more able to get into the music when I know the meaning behind the music that they play and who they are as people. They could occur on a bi-weekly/monthly basis, with a video interview if possible, or just in the format of how the One Voice articles are. It could be a lot to ask for, but it's just a thought
That's a great idea. We'll definitely put more focus on featuring current bands.

It'd be great to just see more videos of shows in general, even if they don't make it onto a "Morning After". Its always great to re-live a show if you went to it or see it for the first time. I feel like Salt Lake has a truly unique scene and the energy at shows is truly something that everyone should experience. Even if one of the GCA writers can't make it to a show, do you think you would except and post footage if it was given to you?
Wyatt -- I would be happy to post any show videos that come our way.
There are days when I'm far too busy to make it to a show (especially ones that start early and are far from my house) and there are other times when I just forget to bring my camera. Other times, when I do have my camera, it takes a while for me to load, edit and upload the finished product.
But honestly, if anybody films shows, upload them to YouTube and send us the link. We'd be more than happy to post them. The more we have the better.
And BxT -- That's a great idea and I've started working on a new column right now that would be video interviews with current bands. It's hard to get everyone's schedule to line up, but I'm going to start making an effort to get those rolling soon.
Austin -- Tell those Better Youth Underground kids to get in touch with me a little more often. I talk to Spencer every once in a while, but he's really the only one I actually know. We tried to get a few of those bands on the GCA Mixtape, but it didn't work out for whatever reason. I would love to have more posts about them.

more than anything and most importantly we need a venue in salt lake. I have been going around and asking different businesses with some lofty space if they would be down with us booking shows. you can all guess on the outcome of that. it’s still a work in progress. im down for driving to Ogden for shows. but sooner or later some of the kids in this town need to do something to resolve this shitty issue that we have had for the past 4-5 years. im not trying to say no one is trying. i have been trying to get something going as far as booking shows go and it’s the biggest pain in the ass when all these venues are run by some jackass and cops are around the corner for noise violations and safety hazards. Food for thought.
Venues come and go. This isn't something new. Many of the people who read this site having been dealing with this issue for over 15 years in SLC.
A solid venue would be great. Like we've said a number of times, we totally support anyone starting one or booking shows. Trevor and I simply don't have the time or resources to invest in one (and I'm a couple thousand miles away for now).
We are putting together a "Booking Shows 101" article that will run in the near future. This should help the cause.
Some brief advice... just do it (which it sounds like you are, Shon, so keep up the good work). You don't need a fancy venue or high-end equipment to book a hardcore show. Over the last 10 years, I've booked shows at veteran's halls, clothing stores, record shops, pizza places, "real" venues, dance clubs, houses, community centers and parks. The list goes on and on. And I've never owned a fancy sound system or worked with bullshit booking agencies.
So don't wait around. Just do it. We'll be sharing our insight on how, very soon.
i think the whole point of my comment was that the kids should be doing something not the older guys. Trevor told me about that booking shows 101 thing 4 months ago and I haven’t seen it yet so I just gave up on that (no offense), but I would love to see it if it comes out. i know that places to play are a dime a dozen. but what i am trying to find is a place that is reputable somewhat how vortex was back when i first started going to shows. i remember taking tracks down there with my friends in middle school, and i think my best memories were there at that time. so I am just trying to find a place like that where the same can be made for me and others. having a venue change after 3 or 4 shows kinda gets old after a while but I guess it’s something we will have to live with for now. On the other hand jp has a sweet thing going on down in Ogden with 2 places he is having shows, so I think for now everyone should support him and what he is doing because someone finally stepped up to the plate. As of now I am looking for a place to have shows at with a fire escape (and basement hopefully) that we can ALL use to book shows at. Hopefully and sooner than later It’ll be nice if touring bands played down here and up in Ogden so we could support each other, not trying to sound posi or anything.

yo that reviver show on the 27th is in my friends garage his neighbors are cool with it and his mom is i think once a month a show would be great their we had a big new years show that was awesome so hopefully we can use that more also robin banks who used to live at boing is moving back and starting a new house which we can hopefully use for shows
101 on the band Truth Be Told, I know nothing about them except those couple of songs on the from the mean streets comp.
