After 30 years of rumors, a film-adaption of Ed Abbey's The Monkey Wrench Gang may finally grace the silver screen.
Abbey, a life-long advocate for the preservation of Utah's wilderness by any means necessary, passed away in 1989 and since his death celebrities from Dennis Hopper to Sean Penn have revealed intentions to bring the tale of a motley crew of eco-terrorists to celluloid. But nothing ever came of the talk.
Director Catherine Hardwicke (Lords of Dogtown, Twilight) vowed recently to make this film a reality and the list of actors associated with the production now includes Jack Nicholson, John Goodman, Matthew McConaughey, Richard Dreyfuss and Elizabeth Shue.
A release has been slated for 2010 with production soon to be underway in Arizona and Utah.
If you give a fuck about Utah's backcountry and haven't read Abbey's works, get on it now! You will not be disappointed.

I hope that mathew mconaughey's part in the movie is just a cameo because he can't act his way out of a nutsack! Other than that the movie sounds cool, I was forced to read that book by my hippy aunt lisa & dug it.
