TOP 50 DYSTOPIAN FILMS

Courtesy of Snarkarati

Massive dehumanization, totalitarian government, rampant disease, post-apocalyptic terrains, cyber-genetic technologies, societal chaos and widespread urban violence are some of the common themes in dystopian films which bravely examine the ominous shadow cast by future.

A dystopia is a fictional society that is the antithesis or complete opposite of a utopia, an ideal world with a perfect social, political and technological infrastructure.

1. Metropolis
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. Brazil
4. Wings of Desire
5. Blade Runner
6. Children of Men
7. The Matrix
8. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
9. Minority Report
10. Delicatessen

...continue.

What's your take?

Equilibrium should have been way higher on that list.. Such a good movie.
I think its cool the only non movie picture and also the main picture for the article is from bioshock (video game) its supposed to be made into a movie sometime in the next couple of years and its going to be awesome.
Its going to be funny when 5 years from now the genetic options when having a child in "Gattica" will be a reality. Unlocking the human genome was only the begining.. They have already started isolating genes so they can make it possible to add or subtract certain genetic traits.
Fuck.. a dystopian future is closer than we think.

You want dystopian future? How about the simple fact that all of those movies are going to be re-made within 10 years, and re-remade in 20.

I didn't say I wanted it. Just implied that at the rate genetisists and bio chemists are going, it's somewhat inevidable.
The movies will be re made because they are badass. I doubt most of them will be re made 10 years from now the content will be irrelavent to the culture.

My comment wasn't necessarily directed to you, Austin, but to the original post.

I cringe at the thought of movies like Robocop, Red Dawn and Total Recall being remade(which is what is actually happening).

All of those movies are classics and shouldn't be touched. There is nothing that can be done to better any of those.
