HAPPY EDGE DAY SALT LAKE CITY

"National Edge Day, or simply Edge Day, is an unofficial holiday recognized by members of the straight edge subculture on October 17. The first annual National Edge Day was celebrated on October 17, 1999 at the final Ten Yard Fight concert at the nightclub Karma in Boston, Massachusetts. The concert also featured the bands Bane, In My Eyes, Fastbreak, Reach The Sky and Floorpunch."

"they have that one good song" FUCK THAT!!!! Those fools have put out at least 4 fucking records... 1 good song?!?!?!

Fuck um! God... Fucking move on!

What will be the next "to have" hoodie i wonder? i heard it was that shit pile stick to your guns... but what do i know?!

It was American Nightmare and I'd put my money on the fact you owned one of those.

Just hang your head. Just close your eyes. Just hide your heart. Hide your heart

God id love to pretend that the hardcore scene wasnt so full of faggots that would make up something like Edge but it is. Its almost as gay as thinking the number 24 is awesome because x is the 24th letter. Im just glad that I live here because if I had to hang out with these bozos Id shoot myself in the face. Yes I said it. If you get excited for "Edge Day" I think you are a huge faggot. I hope you get sexually assaulted.

Austin p. kent, you should fight the other austin.

you otta make it so you cant erase your comments. Not that the erased one was anything cool. But shit man if you say something you cant take that shit back. In lue of that im gonna go ahead and say not only should celebrators of edge day be sexually assaulted but i would also like to say that while I dont condone or believe in any bad feelings for people who choose to sellout, I respect their decision, I do condone extreme violence against any Edge Day people who may sellout someday you are open fucking game. Eat shit you homos! (homo as in homosapian not homosexual as the use in that connotation could be taken as a prejudicial statement which could be introduced as evidence in any future trial that could come from above statements.)

No, no, Guys WE are fucking dumb for not thinking edge day is our national holiday. xwillyx has it all right.

Will said...

pfft. you read about something you know nothing about on wikipedia and dismiss it as dumb. that makes you a fucking idiot.

edge day is an annual show. that's it. not a fucking holiday.

Clinton Sawicz said...

Hey will... go fuck yourself.

i always thought edge day was just a show not a holiday. like in boston they had a show for edge day, and reno. why shouldnt we have one?

sure thing clinton. i'll get right on that.

all epeen flexing aside, i don't get why you dislike bane so much. although i can admit that they were a local band to me, so my opinion is clearly biased. but merch band? comeon.

Clinton Sawicz said...

oh i don't know... cause musically they were as good as a bunch of paraplegics shitting their pants while running into each others wheel chairs and that guys lyrics are as generic as they get... but yet they still play... and kids still buy their fucking zip up, cause some shit bag "older kid" had one so they feel the need to get one too. fuck um.

Will said...

eh. i disagree. imo bane never tried to be mainstream. they sang about issues that impacted them personally; and contrary to what you may think, some of their lyrics were actually ground breaking.

"What's the point of being a kid if you are not gonna run wild and break every stupid rule? Even the ones that make those bands seem cool. You might as well hang out at church."

if i didn't know better i'd think they were singing about utah right there. srsly if more kids understood that song's meaning, straightedge wouldn't be on a gang file.

besides - who really gives a shit what scenesters do - let alone wear? if i did, then i'd have to stop liking the sports teams i've followed since i was a kid just because they each won championships in the past decade and attracted a bunch of fairweather fans (that is except for my beloved bruins...their time will come).

Clinton Sawicz said...

"ground breaking" are fucking serious man?!?! you're a fucking joke. no, really. i hope you are a fake profile and you are a friend of mine just fucking with me... cause that is some ridiculous shit.

you know what, you are so right... man how could i ever have had a negative thought about such an influential band... fuck. where was my head. man, i'm so sorry i discredited your favorite band man. oh, so you're a jock! i see why you like shitty music now! i can just see it now, you going to your high school football game with your bane hoodie just being way bad ass...

as for them trying to be a "mainstream band" i never fucking said anything like that, dumb fuck. they play big "tours" with large guarantees... so that's pretty much too mainstream for any real hardcore kid, well it should be at least...

Main Entry:
2gang
Function:
noun
Etymology:
Middle English, walking, journey, from Old English; akin to Old English gangan
Date:
15th century

1 a (1): a set of articles : outfit (2): a combination of similar implements or devices arranged for convenience to act together b: group : as (1): a group of persons working together (2): a group of persons working to unlawful or antisocial ends ; especially : a band of antisocial adolescents 2: a group of persons having informal and usually close social relations

there it is dumb fuck... the definition of "gang" which fits straight edge perfectly...

i don't know what rock you crawled out from under... but fucking go back.

XfirestormX said...

Seems to me that Boston has a gang file set as well. Funny how that works.
I guess that must be because a bunch of us moved there and did that huh.
Oh and Bane is for faggots.
Mostly because he hurts my eyes to look at and because he acts like a faggot. Bane is the Flat brim hoats of hardcore. Plus isnt that homo a sellout. Which would clearly fall under my sexual assault clause.

Anonymous said...

will... the why i look at it is every show we do is a straight edge show. that is why its dumb. Our hardcore scene is straight edge and proud. We don't need to pick some random ass day to say yo everyone! there are still s.e. kids in hardcore.

I would say that an annual show to celebrate the "Edge" is the same as an annual day to celebrate the birth of a false savior... Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, must be a duck.

p.s. I don't know if we are still kids, but i often still feel like i am 20.

clinton: jock? highschool football game? wtf? are you for real?

learn to size up your opponents better if you insist on being an internet toughguy.

someday you will learn how to have an intelligent conversation without spinning your head around and spitting vitriole everywhere like linda fucking blair.

until then i will do my best to let your pathetisad attempts to piss me off slide because i know that you are nothing but an angry child.

and bane isn't my fav band by any stretch. i am just very loyal to the bands that i've supported over the years since i first started going to shows back before you were born.

youth of today, wasted youth, wrecking crew, slapshot, dagnasty, verbal assault, cromags, fugazi, the accused, cancerous growth, poison idea, dr know, final conflict, dayglo abortions...any of those names ring a bell?

moving along...

bigdog: i'm equally ashamed of the actions of a few bad apples in my home town as i am of the ones here who brought negative attention to the straight edge movement.

and i dunno if Aaron sold out or not, but tbh i could care less if he did. i'm edge for me. i could honestly give two shits if he, you, or anyone else for that matter has a change of heart because it won't change how i live my life one single bit.

"if you know what i mean. then live for your fucking self. life is too short..."

and again, i'd react the same way to you bashing converge, slapshot, blood for blood, or even the dropkicks for that matter as they are all local bands that i've supported for years.

i imagine if you were to move to another state and see people shittalk victims willing you'd jump right into the middle of it all and stick up for them as well.

clint: the s/e scene in boston is fragmented. 95% of people in new england drink at least socially, and the punk scene is no exception.
so unfortunately it does take a major show to get all the s/e people together there. =/

and i'm stoked to see that slc has such a strong edge scene. i don't mean to come across as an elitist asshole at all, but i guess sometimes i do.

i'm lookin forward to going to some shows and getting to know more about the scene here.

Will,

If you want to come to shows and get to know more about Salt Lake, I've got two words of advice for you.

First, don't come out of the gates with lines like "you're fucking dumb" and "that makes you a fucking idiot" (especially when you don't know who you're talking to).

And second, on that note, the people posting here are not "angry children." These people have put on shows and played in bands in Salt Lake for years. So, think about who you're making an impression on before you type.

fair enough dan.

i admit i could have handled things better.

this isn't my house. i'll keep that in mind and be more respectful here on out.

I wouldnt make fun of those bands because most of them are good. But Bane sucks. When it comes to selling out maybe you should verse yourself in my previous posts to understand my point. If you are captain save a Ho about Straight Edge. The guy who preaches about it for many many years through a garbled acne ridden face of dogshit then I hope you die. Since you couldnt mind your fucking business all those years while you were pretending to be an elitest asshole. So yeah I could care less about people making a change I love all my friends regardless of what they choose. But dont come kickin doors down for your cause then expect me not to hate you for turning on a dime. That is if he sold out. Otherwise Ill just hate him for looking like PIZZA THE HUT.
The difference between defending a band that is from your city like Insight (who I dont know personally) and a band like Victims who are close friends is that if I had to defend Insight it would be well I think they are good. If I was pals I wouldnt say shit and youd be on the ground holding your eye. So what Im saying is if they are your buddys and your feelings were hurt by all means come out swinging. Otherwise act your age and say well my opinion is that I like bane. Not call people names. You forgot a major point that I think everyone else forgot. Besides being one of the only cities with a mostly straight edge scene we are also one of the only where pretty much everyone is good friends like 80% of us. So in other words bust out the knee pads cause I think Clinton deserves an apology.

who is xwillx?

Will said...

i took the slams on edge day personally as i happen to know alot of the names and faces behind it. but looking back on things, i should have explained myself rather then hurl insults; hindsight is 20/20 afterall.

i am definitely willing to admit when i am wrong. i've already made my apologies to the community, and i believe that clint and i have made our peace and moved on already.

as far as clinton is concerned, he told me to fuck off before i even said a single word to him. so if i owe him an apology, then he owes me one too.

i'm willing to be respectful to your community, but i won't ever "bust out the kneepads" to anyone. if that means i've made enemies here, then so be it.

i would rather sleep with one eye open than give away one ounce of my self respect.

On a side note, a friend and I actually booked a show for Victims Willing way back when. Next time you talk to them ask em about the show they did at the elks lodge in Logan Canyon in 91.

It was an amazing show. I always remembered it. I wonder if they did too.

Anonymous said...

is it just me or was victims or aftermath even around during 91.

Will said...

they were around.

my buddy aram set it up with one of the guys from raunch records. he handled the payout and the booking. i designed the flyers and managed parking, security, and the cleanup crew.

i made the flyers on autocad because i was in drafting school at the time. it was a brick wall with skulls in the corners and their logo in block letters in the center.

i can't remember the other bands on the bill though as victims were the only one who stood out in my mind at the time. they were fucking amazing.

sias said...

the victims your thinking about wasnt from here. there have been several bands named victims. the salt lake band victims has is a reinvention of another band called aftermath of a trainwreck which broke up 2 years ago or so.

Oh my god this took awhile to get to the actual last post of this. Whew. Salutations all of my friends. He's my opinion on the whole situation. Anyone who uses the term edge in the first place is probably some newbie that will sellout anyways. Thats just as gay as saying Happy straight edger day. That has simple mind written all over it. Lets be honest and say that we are smarter than to celebrate a day that we choose to live through every day life. As far as bane and stuff goes lets be honest. One good song. A sellout as a singer but that honestly is not a concern of mine. Im more concerned with the diseases that grow on the singers potato nose. Why don't we just celebrate everyday having the opportunity to live. "edge day" Is just a sorry excuse to promote our beliefs. I agree in full with what clint said as far as that situation is concerned with how it makes us just as bad as celebrating a false savior. Suck it up and live. Fuck the mainstream faggots that kill everything that we are about.

P.S. I miss you my friends
