Many know the history here. If you don't, these promoters are the antithesis of what hardcore should be about.

November 18 - Throwdown @ V2
November 21 - Gwar @ Saltair
November 25 - Winds of Plauge @ V2

this is bologna. ginger kid concerts and the kollective are two seperate companies. Jimmy Parks runs ginger kid concerts and has been supporting the utah punk scene for years now. i remember meating him before he opened up lo-fi and i've been helping him book and set up shows and get local bands to get exposure. that sucks that you think your hardcore scene is being ruined by these guys but don't bring the punk scene into this drama cause we are all happy with what they do for us. - Trevor STD

I feel like there is a lot of controversy with these ginger kid concert guys.

You have every right to support these promoters.

Just as I have every right to voice my discontent with hardcore and punk shows being run within a business structure.

Nothing's destroying the hardcore scene. But what is punk rock or hardcore, if we're not questioning the bullshit system that is the modern label>booking agent>promoter>profit relationship.

There's nothing "punk rock" about paying your rent off the proceeds from a Youth Brigade show.

Wait.. Are you serious about the lo-fi name change?

jimmy 'the tooth' has done nothing but fuck up the local music scene. hes called the cops on local shows when he was working with kory and the kollective causing local promoters to have to shell out serious money to stay out of trouble. just because jimmy no longer works with the kollective does not mean hes a 'good guy'. im not even convinced hes not working with kory still, we went to visit a friend out at salt air 6 months or so and jimmy was one of the people having the sheriffs throw us out. 7 years of contributing to fucking up the hardcore scene in salt lake isnt erased by him being out on his own and doing a little bit for the local 'punk rock' scene. since when do punk bands give a fuck about exposure anyway?

the real question is, is this why the kollective is selling the avalon? did they somehow work out a deal with the owner of V2 or a partnership? or, is it a situation like the origional lofi where the kollective swooped in and stole the building from the currant occupants because of some loop hole in their lease. it seems kind of counter productive for them to be using the lofi name for a venue catering mostly towards metal and hardcore shows seeing as how they created such a bad name for themselves during the lofi years with all the pseudo hardcore kids and hardcore kids a like.

Dan Fletcher said...

They're running their shows all over. I think Murray Theatre replaced Avalon for the most part.

they are selling the avalon cause Cory can't get a live music permit. So they can't do shows there. Jimmy and Cory are not business partners anymore!

You have every right to support these guys if you want to, Will. You're simply not going to see them endorsed on this site.
