V2 NOW 'LO-FI CAFE'

Layton's V2 is now the resurrected 'Lo-Fi Cafe.'

Man, that name brings back some great memories:

Like the time we had the cops called on us for passing out flyers for a local benefit show outside of the venue.

Or the time I interviewed Jimmy for an article when the venue opened and he spilled his guts about how he really respected the hardcore scene and wanted to work things out to do shows together (which I already knew was bogus after the Albee conversion, and his collusion with Mr. Adams who he knew full-well was a bullshit business man). After the interview, I headed to band practice to find out that after speaking with me, he'd sent an e-mail to the singer of my band calling the hardcore scene a bunch of white trash losers. Talk about the pot calling the fine china black, am I right?

Fond, fond memories. Share your treasured Lo-Fi experiences in the comments...

Well I will go ahead and say it ..... I told everyone so.

Well hopefully now people will realize that we need to support our DIY scene.

And hopefully OCL will drop off that show they have there.

Hopefully now people will realize that we need to support our DIY scene?

I'm pretty sure anyone who is reading this is down for that and has been since they got into hardcore.

What we need is action.

There are a million places in Salt Lake that could do shows...churches, vet's halls, houses, local shops...

All it takes is someone walking in and saying, "would you guys be interested in hosting a concert?"

And ANYONE can book a show! That's what the DIY ethic is about!

I did this with Wild Mushroom and two great summers of shows came out of it.

There are also plenty of small, cheap-rent garages and warehouse spaces around town. Kilby Court has pulled off what they're doing for what, a decade now?

It would be awesome if there were a "Kilby Court" that booked hardcore shows, run by hardcore kids on a diy basis. It could covers its costs and donate the rest to local charities or non-profits.

Trevor and I have talked about launching a small, grassroots, not-for-profit venue for a long time. Our work/school schedules put it off. Now I'm 2000 miles away for a year. I wish I were around to make it happen but if people work together, something like this would be well worth the blood and sweat.

You have every right to support these guys if you want to, Will. You're simply not going to see them endorsed on this site.
