SLC METAL BAND, YAOTIL MICTLAN, SIGNS TO CANDLELIGHT RECORDS

This band is really good. It's a shame this is the first I've heard of them. Mayan culture meets Black Metal. Think Xibalba with blast-beats, or a Mexican 78 Day After Death. And how about their inspiration:

They’re lyrics talk about their belief that after christians colonized Mexico their people lost their identity and succumbed to a colonized way of life. Their lyrics are inspired by the unfortunate way in which at the present time their people live in extreme self hatred. Ultimately they would like to see the end of the colonized way of thinking and for their people to embrace their roots. (From the band's MySpace page)

Solid melodic black metal with good intentions to boot. Visit that MySpace page here. Oh yeah, here's the news...

Lambgoat // Salt Lake City-based Yaotl Mictlan have completed recording of their second album currently planned for release in April. Dentro del Mantro Gris de Chaae showcases the band's Mexican and Mayan culture (their name in the Mexican language of Nahuatl meaning "warriors from the land of the dead"). The band, originally discovered by Brujeria vocalist Juan Brujo, was formed by brothers Yaotl and Tlatecatl in 1998. Yaotl Mictlan plan to tour in support of the album throughout 2010.
