Salt Lake Tribune -- If The Leonardo [The museum beside the downtown library currently featuring the Body World exhibit] comes up with enough money to tap a $10.2 million voter-approved bond, it can count on Salt Lake County to commit $360,000 to the project.
The County Council will stand by its financial contribution to the downtown science and cultural attraction -- despite fundraising snags that have kept The Leonardo from going forward.
"Our community really needs these kinds of facilities to be the kind of community we want to be," Democratic Councilman Randy Horiuchi said. But Tuesday's decision was bittersweet for The Leonardo. While the venue would get the money, it wouldn't be as much as the $400,000 the council originally offered. With the economy in decline, officials trimmed the donation by 10 percent.
