Salt Lake Tribune -- A Salt Lake City man attacked a woman with a sword, inflicting critical head injuries, after she allowed him into her home to spend the Christmas season with their children, police said.
The woman did not feel threatened by the man initially, even as he was sharpening his katana sword Monday in her kitchen near 1100 South and 900 West, police said.
But then he took the sword into the living room and struck her, cutting her face and the top of her head, according to police. He also hit her with the broad side of the sword, bending it badly. Witnesses intervened, and the man fled.
The woman was hospitalized in serious to critical condition, according to police. The man was arrested in a park near Indiana Avenue.
