MINOR THREAT OR SLAPSHOT?

I've heard this argument come up for years in Salt Lake. Cast your vote over there in the right panel and let the world know which straightedge forefather was more important to Grudge City Hardcore.

(And everyone knows Minor Threat wrote the song "Straightedge" so let's not nitpick overall importance here.. this is about their impact on Salt Lake City.)

i love slapshot.... i really do! in fact, i used to skateboard home from kearns jr. high often getting chased by jocks, Jason McMillan and his two older brothers to be exact, while listening to Back on the Map on my headphones.

but call it "nitpicking" if you will, but "over all importance" to Salt lake city and the impact on "Grudge City" (which is questionable, considering most kids that carry the "grudge city" banner don't even know who, where and why the name "Grudge City" came about) should be obvious!

Salt Lake City, has had a LONG history of "Positive Hardcore" and early SLC, bands were OBVIOUSLY influenced by Minor Threat, as were Negative FX, Last Rights and eventually SLAPSHOT!

so i guess my question is, does history of SLC hardcore begin when each individual person becomes aware and/or a part of the SLC "scene" or is this about TRUE HISTORY and the impact each band has had?

call it a nitpick, but i take hardcore seriously, and i love minor threat and slapshot equally. i don't think i would favor one band over the other, but to say Slapshot has had more of an impact on SLCHC, than Minor Threat, is ridiculous.

maybe for personal reasons, but that's not exactly the question here is it?

Oooh that is a toughy. I cannot speak on behalf of all the Grudge City kids, but my own personal experience over the last few years is that Slapshot gets played more over Minor Threat by the majority of people out here, but thats just been my experience. I am in the same boat with Troy I love them both and would be hard pressed to pick which one I love more. I know I listen to Minor Threat more than Slapshot, but would not say I prefer one over the other.
