SAM WELLER'S CLOSING SHOP DOWNTOWN
Salt Lake Tribune -- Sam Weller's Books announced Thursday that it will close its store on Main Street and move to an undetermined new location.
The bookstore has operated at 254 S. Main Street since 1961.
A press release by Sam Weller's Books stated that the recent economic downturn, as well as other considerations, have forced third generation owners, Tony and Catherine Weller, to make the move.
Moving plans will be announced when a new location is found, the release stated.
On Monday, the store will begin discounting books in a moving sale. Store officials did not state when the move would take place.
The Main Street site is the fourth location of the family-owned bookstore since the business was found in 1929.

That is kind of a bummer. Most of their staff was a bunch of assholes, but it was a landmark of Salt Lake independent business
that really sucks that they're closing
That is probably one of the most poorly-designed bookstores I've ever been to. It's like a fuckin' maze in the basement. Fuck that place. Yeah, I said it, I don't give a fuck about Sam Wellers.
The maze aspect is the best thing about that place. You can kill hours just wandering around.
Agreed, the discount room in the basement is awesome.
